FAQ
Q: What is a Subluxation?

Answer:  A subluxation is when one or more of the bones of the spine (vertebrae) move out of position or misaligned causing nerve pressure on, or irritating spinal nerves. Spinal nerves are the nerves that come out from between each of the bones in the spine.

This pressure or irritation causes the body to not work at 100% of its natural ability, creating malfunctioning of some part of the body.

MALFUNCTION IN THE BODY RESULTS IN A LOWERED IMMUNE SYSTEM AND CAUSES POOR RESISTANCE TO INFECTIONS, ILLNESS AND DISEASE.

Subluxations can be caused by number of factors: stress and trauma such a slips, falls, auto accidents, sports injuries, bad posture or even accidents during the childhood years can eventually take a toll on your body’s ability to heal.

Q: What is an Adjustment?

Answer: Spinal joints that are “locked up”, fixated or not moving right can affect your health by “choking” or irritating nearby nerve tissue. Chiropractic adjustments add motion to these areas. This helps restore nervous system integrity and can improve the healing process.

There are many ways to adjust the spine. Sometimes the doctor’s hands deliver a quick, highly accurate thrust. Or an instrument directs a repeatable force to a fixated spinal joint.

Other times a slow constant pressure is used. Some chiropractic doctors use special tables with moving sections. Several areas of the spine may be adjusted, or just one area. The key is to use the precise amount of energy. At the exact spot, in the right direction, at just the right time, to get spinal joints moving again.
Chiropractic is truly an art. Your chiropractic doctor has become a master at one or more adjusting techniques.
With the intent of reducing nervous system irritation, chiropractic adjustments are specific, targeted, and focused.

Q: Are Adjustments Safe?

Answer: YES. And an adjustment is modified to suit the specific needs of each patient.

Q: What does an Adjustment feel like?

Answer: After the brief thrust many patients report a sense of well-being or feeling of calmness. Others feel improved mobility. Inflammation or muscle spasms may delay these positive effects. Chiropractors excel at making adjustments comfortable and effective..

Q: What causes NECK PAIN?

Answer: Your neck is the most vulnerable part of your spine. Not only does it support your 10 to 12 pound head, maintain a gentle forward curve, and permit head rotation, but it must also allow the free flow of nerve impulses to the head, face, hands and the rest of your body. Besides discomfort and annoyance, chronic neck pain is a sign that something is wrong.
Many everyday things can cause neck pain, such as watching TV, using your computer, reading a book or falling asleep in a chair or an airplane, or the improper use of the telephone (like resting it between your shoulder and ear). The temporary pain that results can resolve on its own, especially when the offending activity is discontinued.

When it doesn’t, a more serious underlying problem may be indicated. The most common cause of neck pain is functional distortions in the spine resulting from vertebral subluxations. These subluxations are seen in cases of reverse cervical curve, whiplash and joint instability. The body responds by tightening muscles in the neck, “splinting” the joint to protect it from further insult. Chiropractic can help.

Most of the pain-sensing nerves in the neck are located in the pairs of facet joint on the back of each vertebra. These smooth, interlocking surfaces allow you to rotate your head and bend your head up and down. If these joints become locked or fixated, neck pain can result. Chiropractic care can help restore proper joint motion.

A more difficult problem to correct is the degenerative changes that result from neglect. Years of uncorrected spinal problems can cause bone spurs, disc thinning and other forms of spinal decay. These types of problems respond more slowly, and some type of on-going supportive chiropractic care may be necessary.

Our response to stress is another common cause of neck pain. Deadlines, rush-hour, traffic, overcommintments, work pressures, family obligations just to mention some.

If the weakest link in our bodies is our neck, stress shows up there. While chiropractic care cannot reduce stress of your busy life, it can help improve your ability to handle and tolerate it. Without drugs or surgery.

Q: What is Chiropractic?

Answer: Chiropractic is a philosophy, art and a science which utilizes the inherent recuperative powers of the body and deals with the relationship between the brain, the body and the spinal cord.

Chiropractic is the world’s largest healing system. It helps to remove the obstruction-by correcting vertebral misalignments (subluxations) that can interfere with the flow of nerve energy to all parts of the body.

Chiropractors detect and correct subluxations by physically adjusting the spine. This allows the body to function at an optimum level, safely and naturally.

“THE POWER THAT MADE THE BODY HEALS THE BODY. IT HAPPENS NO OTHER WAY.”

Q: Can a woman get adjusted while Pregnant?

Answer: At first glance, most people don’t see the connection between chiropractic and pregnancy. However, there are four stages in which having an optimally working nervous system and structural support help both mother and child.
Pre-Conception
Chiropractic care prior to conception promotes a more regular menstrual cycle and optimal uterine function. It prepares the body to be strong, supple and as balanced as possible to carry the pregnancy. Many couples who thought they were infertile have been helped by restoring proper nerve supply to reproductive organs.
Pregnancy
Regular chiropractic care during pregnancy helps maintain balance, alignment and flexibility. Many report less morning sickness. When the baby is comfortable, it can assume the optimal birthing position.
Labor and Birth
Mothers who get adjusted seem to require less high-tech intervention. Most report shorter, less traumatic births. With proper nerve supply, well-timed contractions help move the baby more easily through the birth canal.
Post Delivery
Even natural births can stress a baby’s spine. Breastfeeding problems can arise if the baby is unable to comfortably turn its head. Scheduling a chiropractic checkup for your newborn as soon as possible is recommended. You can relax. Knowing we use a light touch to make adjustments safe, comfortable and effective. Will an adjustment hurt my baby? Of course not. An infant’s spine rarely has the long standing muscle tightness seen in adults. So the energy needed to adjust a child’s spine is considerably less than what’s needed to adjust an adult, even a teenager.

Q Can Chiropractic help Migraine/Headache Sufferers?

Answer: There are many types and causes of headaches. One of the most crippling kinds is a migraine headache. Regardless of the cause or type of headache, you want it to end. Fast!
This has produced a huge market for medications that cover up the symptoms of headaches. Pwerful drugs can numb your nervous system so the pain doesn’t register. While these approaches may be convenient, they can cause adverse effects and kidney or liver damage. Worse, they don’t correct the underlying cause of the headache.
A cause of headaches can be from spinal bones in the neck that aren’t supporting your head properly. They’re not moving right. This can affect nerves, muscles and even the blood supply to your head.

Chiropractic doctors locate areas of the spine that aren’t moving properly. They notice spinal curves. They look at your posture and your ability to turn and bend. These and many other examinations can help determine if you are likely to benefit from chiropractic care.

If you’re a good chiropractic candidate, your care will consist of specific chiropractic adjustments. These help normalize spinal function, help restore essential spinal curves, improve circulation and reduce nerve irritation. Many patients report fewer and less severe headaches.

Q: What is Sciatica?

Answer: Sciatica can be a distracting pain that starts in the lower back and extends down into one or both legs. Chiropractic care has proven to be quite helpful. Sciatica usually begins as an acute pain in the lower back and then extends down the back of either leg. The pain usually worsens with long periods of sitting or standing, or extended bed rest.
Like a large river created by smaller streams, five pairs of nerves exit the spine in the lower back to form the two sciatic nerves. Pain pills or muscle relaxers are unable to correct the nerve compression. Physical therapy merely exercises the unstable joints. Fortunately, sciatiaca often responds to safe, natural chiropractic care. Improving joint motion with a series of chiropractic adjustments has produced results for millions.
